Rugby First has asked all town centre businesses to dress their shop windows as part of the national celebrations for the King’s Coronation on Saturday 6 May, and help turn the town centre into a red, white and blue spectacle!
King Charles III’s coronation will take place on Saturday 6 May 2023 at Westminster Abbey in London. During the ceremony, the King will be crowned alongside Camilla, the Queen Consort. A coronation is both the symbolic religious ceremony during which a sovereign is crowned and the physical act of placing a crown on a monarch’s head. It formalises the monarch’s role as the head of the Church of England and marks the transfer of their title and powers. However, it is not actually necessary for the monarch to be crowned to become King. Edward VIII reigned without a coronation – and Charles automatically became King the moment Queen Elizabeth II died.
Linda Lowne, Rugby First Business and Stakeholder Manager, said: “We already have had a number of businesses say they will be dressing their windows but we would love more to get involved. Not only is it a historic occasion but it is also a great opportunity for the business to get creative, it generates positive feedback from customers and the additional promotion through Rugby First’s social media platforms helps raise the businesses profile – why would you not dress your window?”
Linda continued: “The best dressed window will be judged by the Mayor of Rugby on Saturday 6 May and a trophy will be presented to the winning business by a very special visitor to the town centre. The competition winner will be promoted by Rugby First via social media, its web site and the local press so some great free promotion for the business. All registered entries will also be publicised via our social media platforms.”
