Buying and selling property are commonly cited as two of life’s more stressful activities and a new survey carried out by an estate agent goes someway to demonstrating this.
After commissioning independent insight agency Opinion Matters to survey over 1,000 home owners, eMoov has come to the conclusion that selling a home is more stressful than a wedding day.
The research was produced to highlight people’s stress levels when selling a property and overall, 19% of survey participants said that a property sale was the most stressful activity, compared to 18% who cited their wedding day.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, though, personal wellbeing topped the poll, with nearly half of consumers voting that stress levels would be highest waiting for a medical procedure.
Stress levels were different when analysing results by gender, 36% of females voted Child Birth more stressful than selling a home but for men this declines by 10% to 26%, no surprise considering the imbalance in effort required.
Males feel more stress for driving tests, an increase of 5% over females and also 9% higher when trying to find a new job.
As part of the same survey, the majority (84%) of respondents identified selling a property as stressful, with a significant 21% ranking selling as 10 out or 10 for their stress levels.
“So now it’s official. Sitting an important exam, getting married or a first date pale into insignificance compared to the protracted and expensive process of moving home,” says Russell Quirk, CEO of eMoov.
